Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project - Safety Housing for Elderly (Sha Tin) 2018

Key components:
  • Design an age-friendly home safety assessment checklist by occupational therapists and train AFC Ambassadors and volunteers to use the checklist.
  • Organise talks to enhance the public understanding on the key elements of an age-friendly home and community.
  • Provide trainings by experienced home maintenance instructors to equip volunteers to become home maintenance ambassadors so that they can assist the elderly in conducting assessment and improvement work, e.g. changing door hinges and parts of toilet tank, and painting walls, in order to improve the elderly’s living environment.
  • Conduct regular sharing sessions for organisations in Sha Tin and AFC Ambassadors to exchange views on age-friendly housing and invite home maintenance ambassadors to share the learnings from the programme.
  • Organise a ceremony to acknowledge the volunteers and share the programme achievements.
