The Global AgeWatch Index developed by HelpAge International is a multi-dimensional index assessing the social and economic well-being of older people in over 90 countries, representing over 90% of people aged 60 or above globally. It enables international comparison of the quality of life of older people and provides a means to measure progress in policy responses to ageing.

Jockey Club Institute of Ageing of The Chinese University of Hong Kong has started to develop a local AgeWatch Index ("Index") for Hong Kong annually for five consecutive years and the first Index was announced in July 2015. The Index helps identify areas for improvement and facilitates project planning for turning Hong Kong into an age-friendly city.
