《Minibus Sign Calligraphy Workshop》Handwritten minibus sign and keychain

The new olds are getting more energetic and versatile. Their interests are no longer limited to playing chess and practising calligraphy. Developing new hobbies enables the elderly to unfold their second life regaining happiness of life and passing on their craftsmanship skills.

The Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project collaborated with online media, CTgoodjobs to organise "Minibus Sign Calligraphy Workshop" on 5 September 2021. The event invited Mr Mak Kam-sang, the last minibus sign calligrapher in Hong Kong with 30 years of experience, to demonstrate and share how his craftsmanship at work turned into unique interests, and brought this traditional craft to the community and among younger generation. He also taught his calligraphy techniques as well as explained the history of minibus in Hong Kong and shared some fun facts. Nearly 30 participants made their own minibus signs and keychains on site and appreciated Master Mak’s craftsmanship and were impressive by the talents of the elderly.
