Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project - Love and Care Team

Organisation:Yan Oi Tong Hong Kong Toi Shan Association Neighbourhood Elderly Centre

Key components:
  • Recruit young-olds to be volunteers, and provide trainings on caring skills for elderly with dementia and frail elderly (including trainings on physiotherapy, occupational therapy and tour guide). Placements and volunteering services will be arranged by the organisation upon completion of trainings.
  • Launch a “smart brain” scheme to help participants build up a habit of exercising and conducting cognitive training activities to sustain memory, speech and overall cognitive abilities, as well as to do daily activities.
  • Lead other elderly people to understand the age-friendly elements in the community by young-olds who have completed the tour guide trainings. The young-olds may become professional tour guides of elderly centres to lead outdoor activities in the future.
  • Produce promotional materials to disseminate information on prevention of dementia and the tips of daily training for elderly who suffered from dementia.
