Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project - Launch Ceremony of Publicity and Public Education Activities

The launch ceremony of publicity and public education activities of the Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project was held on 16 March 2016 at Citywalk, Tsuen Wan. Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Leong Cheung, Executive Director, Charities and Community, The Hong Kong Jockey Club and Mr Chan Yiu-wah, Assistant Director of Broadcasting (Radio and Corporate Programming), Radio Television Hong Kong officiated at the ceremony. The ceremony was well attended by about 200 guests, including representatives of government departments, District Councils, non-governmental organisations and professional support teams of four universities.

Representatives of four professional support teams highlighted the bottom-up and district-based approach in enhancing the age-friendliness of local communities. They also shared the importance of driving improvements in different domains of age-friendliness and relevant overseas experience in building age-friendly cities.

The Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project aims to build age-friendly momentum in districts, recommend a framework for districts to undertake continual improvement for the well-being of our senior citizens, and arouse public awareness on building an age-friendly city. As a media partner of the Project, RTHK Radio 5 has started to promote age-friendly messages to elderly people and other stakeholders in the community. The launch ceremony served as a prelude of a series of publicity and public education activities of the Project.
