Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project – Home Improvement Project for the Elderly (whole Hong Kong Island)

Key components:
  • Train volunteers (including repair workers and home cleaning helpers) and pest control operators with the basic knowledge of home safety assessment and the communication skills with elderly people to get prepared for the home visits. 
  • Conduct home visits to the elderly in need on Hong Kong Island and provide initial suggestions on home improvement after safety assessment.
  • Arrange review meetings to further examine the needs of each elderly household and determine the improvement work needed (home modification / tidy-up exercise / pest control).
  • Provide home modification / tidy-up exercise / pest control for the elderly households by the trained volunteers and pest control operators, so as to create a safe and comfortable living environment for the elderly.
  • Organise closing and recognition ceremony to present certificates of appreciation to volunteers and share the achievements and experiences of the programme.
